Hyderabad: A young man from Telangana whose wife has been missing for nearly a month has appealed to the Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to help find her.

B Vinay Babu, 28, works at a bank in Hyderabad. He alleges that his wife was abducted a month ago by her family because they were opposed to an inter-caste marriage.  His in-laws are originally from Rajasthan, and Mr Babu claims that they had threatened to move her to Jodhpur.

"My appeal to Rajasthan Chief Minister (Vasundhara Raje) is to please help me find my wife. She is missing for one month and I am really worried about her safety. If she was fine, she would have definitely called me,'' he told NDTV.

Mr Babu met 23-year-old Mamatha in 2013 in Hyderabad and married her two months ago.  He claims that after the wedding, his wife and he went to the local police station to share his in-laws' threats and the entire family was summoned for counseling.

Mamatha also allegedly filed a complaint with the police stating that she was worried about threats from her family for having married a man against their wishes.

The local police said it was not possible to provide security to her.

After that, Mr Babu says, the couple was tailed by strangers, even after they moved to a new house. Late last month, Mamatha disappeared while Mr Babu was at work. Neighbours have told the police that they saw her being forcibly taken away.

''We registered a case of kidnapping. We also sent a team to Jodhpur district, but they could not trace her. We are still trying," said senior police officer Anand Reddy.

In Jodhpur, Mamatha's family has also filed a police case alleging that she ran away with five kilos of gold after her marriage.
