Madurai: PMK would be able to provide the change which the people of Tamil Nadu crave for, if it was elected to power during 2016 Assembly polls, by eradicating corruption, closing liquor shops and resolving various crises including water and power shortage, party founder S Ramadoss said.

Addressing the party's regional conference at Vadipatti near Madurai, he claimed "people are longing for a change in the state, they want an alternative, and that longing will play a crucial role in bringing PMK to power, irrespective of its popularity in the South, East, West and Central Regions."

He pointed out that AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, AINRC leader Rangaswamy of Puducherry and even Janata Party was able to form governments within a very short period after the respective parties were formed.

Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee was able to wipe out CPI-M in West Bengal by organising only two agitations including one in Singur, he claimed.

"The present mentality of the people in Tamil Nadu is the same as it was in Delhi, West Bengal and Puducherry. They want to eradicate corruption, liquor which both AIADMK and DMK had been patronising so long. If the PMK is elected to power, corruption will be wiped out, liquor shops will be closed and development and change will be the main agenda of the party," Mr Ramadoss said.

"People here say silent revolution is taking place and people are looking for an alternative to DMK and AIADMK," he said.

He claimed that PMK had been a good opposition party whether it joined hands with DMK or AIADMK.

"We have criticised the government in a constructive way and made suggestions for development. We were a responsible opposition. The main opposition now is DMDK, you know how Vijayakanth (DMDK leader) is functioning. I don't want to tell," he added.

Anbumani Ramadoss, the PMK's chief ministerial candidate, said he would take the state in the path of development.
