Vijayakant Keeps Parties Guessing On Alliance Before Polls

In 2011, Vijayakant fought elections with the AIADMK and won 28 seats.

Chennai: Actor Vijayakant, president of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam or DMDK party, is keeping his cards close to his chest about his plans for an alliance for the 2016 assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.

Amid buzz that he would announce his alliance strategy on Saturday at the party's 'Turning Point Conference', the actor-turned-politician said he would announce his plans at the appropriate time.

Earlier at the meet, Vijayakant also sought the opinion of his cadre asking, "Do you want me to be the king or king maker?" Though there was no clarity on what the audience response was about the Chief Minister-aspirant inferred it as "King".

Vijayakant was expected to announce an alliance at the party's conference.

In 2011, Vijayakant fought elections with the AIADMK and won 29 seats. He also became the Opposition Leader. However, he parted ways with Jayalalithaa soon.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, though his party teamed up with the BJP that swept the polls in the country, it drew a blank.

The DMDK is the most sought-after party for an alliance ahead of Tamil Nadu assembly polls, due in May. The DMK, MNK and the BJP are presently wooing his party.

Among others, his party promises foreign trips to 5,000 farmers every year so they can learn modern farming practices. He also promises separate schools and colleges for transgender people.
