Tamil Nadu Assembly Session to Start from August 24

The Tamil Nadu Assembly session will begin from August 24.

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu Assembly session will begin from August 24, and it will also be chief minister, J Jayalalithaa's first session after taking over the reins in May this year after a gap of eight months, after she was acquitted in a disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court.

Assembly Secretary, AMP Jamaludeen said, "This would be an extension of the budget Session".

The opposition is ready to corner the government on several issues, spokesperson for the DMK , TKS Elangovan said, "We would raise several issues including demand for prohibition, attack on students demanding prohibition, the Chittoor killings in which twenty Tamils were shot dead by Andhra police etc."

However, six opposition lawmakers belonging to the DMDK will remain suspended for ten days in this session as well. They were suspended for creating ruckus during the presentation of the budget in April this year. All opposition parties had termed the move to suspend them as harsh.

DMK Treasurer M K Stalin said "We have plenty to discuss but there's a big question mark if the Speaker would allow the opposition to speak".

The ruling AIADMK has nominated Finance Minister O Panneerselvam to be the Leader of the House, a position he held before becoming the Chief Minister last year following the conviction of Ms Jayalalithaa in September.
