Three time legislator, MC Sampath is contesting from the Cuddalore assembly constituency.

Chennai: Angry over the government's response during the floods last year, a young man on Wednesday threw a shoe at Tamil Nadu's Commercial Taxes Minister MC Sampath while he was campaigning in the Cuddalore district.

According to reports, the minister was targeted at Karamanaikuppam, a Dalit dominant village. The shoe fell on the bonnet of his vehicle.

Three time legislator, MC Sampath is contesting from the Cuddalore assembly constituency.

Sources say the locals had asked the minister not to come into their village seeking votes as they are angry over the government's poor response during the floods last December.

However, local police say they did not receive any complaint about this and no one has been arrested.

Cuddalore, a coastal rural district, was badly affected during the December floods and suffered huge property loss.

Besides allegations of poor response by the government, the ruling AIADMK also faced criticism for labelling relief materials sent by public and NGOs with chief minister J Jayalalithaa's stickers.

Tamil Nadu goes for polls on Monday.

The state is witnessing a five-cornered contest. Ms Jayalalithaa is trying for a second term. DMK chief M Karunanidhi is aiming at a return to power.
