Karnataka's AAP Celebrates Delhi Win, Congratulates Arvind Kejriwal

AAP supporters celebrate the party's Delhi win in Bengaluru office

Bengaluru:

Delhi may be thousands of kilometers away from Bengaluru - but the spectacular victory of the Aam Aadmi Party in the national capital found resonance in the state unit of the party in Karnataka. A merry celebration was organised close to the Bengaluru office of the party.

Some supporters of the AAP celebrated by dancing to Bollywood songs and took out a procession afterwards.

Party workers said they were greatly encouraged by the results and that it would help them in their bid to open their account in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, the local body elections, which are due later this year.

An AAP member, V Balakrishnan, who contested from Bangalore Central in last year's Lok Sabha election, told NDTV, "A win was expected but the scale of it took us by surprise. It was a mistake when (AAP chief) Arvind Kejriwal resigned as chief minister of Delhi. But we have apologised and learnt from that mistake and it won't be repeated."

Local supporters of the BJP, agreed with the party's claims that the Delhi result was not a referendum of the performance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi or his government at the Centre.

AAP recruitment and campaigns have often focused on Karnataka, and Bengaluru in particular.
