|How For This 81 Year Old Garbage To Compost Is A Mission|
40 years back, in 1978 when Sudha Pai moved to Pune's Model Colony she was disturbed by the piles of garbage lying onto the streets in her colony. It was then that she decided to do something about it at an individual level. To manage the waste generation, she first followed waste segregation by sorting out dry and wet waste. The next step was composting. She used the wet garbage in creating compost for her garden. 'I was startled by the way the garbage was heaped on the streets. There was little to no waste management and all of it just sat there accumulating. It made me feel a little helpless,' recounts Ms Pai.
