New Delhi:
Keep the tissues handy because this one will make you teary-eyed. Alyssa Herrera's sister has been visually-impaired since birth. On Tuesday, she tweeted the moment her sister was able to read a food menu for the first time in 18 years. She tweeted a photo of her sister ordering her own food with the help of a Braille menu and the image is melting hearts. When the siblings went to eat at Red Robin Burgers in Ohio, Alyssa was surprised to see the restaurant offered her sister a menu written in Braille.
Her tweet was liked over 350,000 times and retweeted 95,000 times.
Alyssa also posted a screenshot of a conversation with the restaurant, thanking them for making their visit special. The restaurant returned the favour by inviting the siblings back along with a $50 gift coupon.
Twitter was overwhelmed with emotions
Braille is a system which assists visually-impaired people to read by touching a pattern of raised dots. Invented in 1800s, the system is still absent in public spaces like restaurants.
