Viral: Woman's Post Explains Why Her Daughter Won't Do Homework Anymore

The post has collected many positive reactions on social media.

New Delhi: Writer Bunmi Laditan penned a passionate post explaining why her daughter won't do homework anymore, and it seems to have resonated with parents around the world. Since being shared online on April 26, the post has gone viral on Facebook with 61,000 reactions and over 16,000 shares. In her post, Ms Laditan explains why she has written to her daughter Maya's school to tell them that Maya is going to 'drastically reduce' the amount of homework she does.

In a screenshot of the letter attached to the post, Ms Laditan talks about how the stress of school has resulted in Maya waking up at 4 am in the morning with chest pains and constantly worrying about homework. "Doing 2-3 hours of homework after getting home at 4:30 is leaving little time for her to just be a child and enjoy family time and we'd like to avoid her sinking into a depression over this," explains Ms Laditan in the letter that she wrote to Maya's school.

Many have commented on the post saying that they fully agree with Ms Laditan's decision. In fact, her post has been bombarded with comments from teachers saying that they do not believe in assigning homework. "I'm a reading resource teacher and I outlawed all homework this year. Research doesn't support it," writes one commenter.

Many others have praised Ms Laditan for recognizing that academic success is not the only thing important for a child's development. "As a child psychologist, I'd like to say: THANK YOU for being brave in taking this stance, and standing up for what you know to be the right choice for your daughter! You're modeling so many positive values that go beyond academics here (assertiveness, focus on family time)" writes another commenter.
