One person died and two others were injured after a huge signboard collapsed and crushed a motorcycle and a car in Noida today, as the National Capital Region was hit by rain, thunder storm and dust storm.
The signboard collapsed near the DLF Mall in Sector 18 of Noida. The motorcyclist died on the spot; the driver of the car was injured in the incident.
"A sign board has collapsed outside gate number 4 of DLF mall. A motorcycle and a car came under it. The motorcyclist died on the spot. Car driver has been hospitalized. We are investigating the whole incident," said Assistant Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover.
Delhi and its surrounding areas witnessed a thunderstorm and heavy rains this afternoon, which brought some respite from the heat wave that has been sweeping north India and other parts of the country.
The temperature has dropped to 33 degrees Celsius. The average temperature last week has been above 40 degrees Celsius.
Light showers owing to a Western Disturbance had lashed the capital yesterday but failed to bring any respite as the maximum temperature again crossed the 45 degrees Celsius mark.
