'Who Gave You Most Pleasure?' Kerala Cops' Gang-Rape Comment To Be Probed

Kerala Police to investigate the allegation of "Who gave you the most pleasure?" comment

Thiruvananthapuram: A gang-rape survivor's allegation that she was subjected to humiliation by police officers and finally  forced to drop her case will be investigated by the police in Kerala.

The 32-year-old woman from Thrissur, who was raped allegedly by four of her husband's friends in 2014, alleges that she was asked by the police: "Which one of them gave you the greatest pleasure?"

The Kerala police has ordered an inquiry against its officers; Senior police officer Loknath Behera also said investigation will begin again into the gang-rape case.

"It's going to be challenging but we've taken up that challenge. Depending upon the findings of the inquiry, immediate action will be taken," Mr Behera said.

The Opposition raised the gang-rape survivor's allegations in the Kerala assembly. Ramesh Chennithala of the opposition Congress demanded that police officers involved in the case be suspended. In response, Law Minister AK Balan said the government would take unbiased action.

The woman went to the police two years after the incident, in August, because of fear.

"I could tell even my husband several months later. I was very scared to register a case because the rapists had video recorded the entire incident and threatened to make it public if I complained," the survivor and her husband told the media.

Recently, the woman called dubbing artiste and activist Bhagya Lakshmi after watching her in a TV discussion. Bhagya Lakshmi's Facebook post on her story has been widely circulated and drew a response from the police and the state government. Bhagya Lakshmi encouraged her to go public with her allegations.
