Corruption Row Disrupts Kerala Assembly

Soon after the Assembly session began, Opposition lawmakers raised slogans and placards during the Question Hour.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Assembly was adjourned within few hours of meeting for the winter session today. Opposition lawmakers rushed to near the centre of House, demanding the resignation of excise minister K Babu based on the allegations made against him by hotelier Biju Ramesh.

The hotelier has claimed that the minister K Babu was given a bribe of Rs 10 crores by various bar owners.

Soon after the Assembly session began, Opposition lawmakers raised slogans and placards during the Question Hour.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala while responding in the House had said, "According to the law, an investigation could be initiated even without a case and there are no evidences against K Babu necessitating filing of any case."

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, CPM State Secretary alleged, the government has shown a dual stand with one towards KM Mani, and another towards K Babu when both have had allegations of bribery against them. God's own country has become a land of corruption and scams under the UDF government."

The House was adjourned, after no proceedings could continue.  Meanwhile LDF and BJP took out protest marches toward the Assembly demanding the minister's resignation.
