To Ensure Basic Courtesy, Haryana To Address Citizens As Sir, Madam

Chandigarh: To ensure basic courtesy to common citizens approaching various organs of the government for individual or public matters, the Haryana government today announced that directions have been issued that all replies to the citizens would invariably begin with the use of the words 'Sir' or 'Madam'.

"Extension of minimum basic courtesies to the citizens formed an integral part of good governance. All such communications should receive careful consideration and should be responded at an appropriate level, and expeditiously," an official spokesman said.

The name, designation, telephone number, fax number and e-mail of officer signing the communication should be indicated in the communication, wherever applicable, the spokesman said.
