Terrorist Killed In Jammu And Kashmir Encounter Used To Be A Cop

The killed terrorist was identified as Rakib Bashir, a former special police officer or SPO.

Pulwama: A terrorist, who used to be a special police officer before leaving the force, was killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district today.

Tipped off about the presence of terrorists in the Gundpora village of South Kashmir, security forces launched an operation in the area.

After cordoning off the village, when the police and the Army closed in on the house where the terrorists were holed up, they came under heavy fire.

A fierce gunbattle went for an hour with the well-armed terrorists even lobbing grenades at the security forces.

While one terrorist was killed, officials suspect another managed to escape.

The killed terrorist was identified as Rakib Bashir, a former special police officer or SPO.

Police sources said Bashir had served in the police for a brief period before joining the terror group Hizbul Mujahideen.

The incident came on a day when another police officer deserted the force with an AK-47 from a police station in Srinagar.

Reyaz Ahmad who was posted at the Rainawari police station may have joined a terrorist group, police sources said.
