Retired Colonel Among 7 Arrested In Army Recruitment Scam

A retired army colonel is among the 7 arrested in connection with an alleged fake recruitment scam.

Nashik: A retired Army Colonel has been arrested in connection with an alleged bogus recruitment racket at the Nashik Artillery Centre.

According to the police 59-year-old retired army officer Sukhpritsingh Arjunsingh Randhawa was the mastermind of a racket that provided fake documents to help aspirants get recruited into the Artillery Centre. Mr Randhawa is a resident of Noida in Uttar Pradesh.

On July 11, the police in Nashik had arrested four men claiming to be army recruits, all hailing from Rajasthan, with fake documents for joining the artillery school in Nashik. They were held following a complaint lodged by an Artillery Centre official.

During interrogation the four men confessed that they had paid Rs 6 lakh to an agent in Alwar who promised to help them get enlisted in the artillery school.

Later the Nashik police also arrested serving army man Girijasingh Ghanshyamsingh Chouhan, of the Rajputana Rifles from New Delhi. Another 'agent' Tekchand Meghawal, a resident of Rajashtan's Alwar was also arrested on August 23.

According to the police, seven persons including Mr Randhawa have so far been arrested in connection with the case. Mr Randhawa will be questioned by the police tomorrow, and is expected to throw light on how many youths gained entry into the army with the help of fake documents.
