'Want To Meet Our MP:' 150 Women Block Rahul Gandhi's Car In Amethi

New Delhi: About 150 women protesters blocked Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's convoy in his parliamentary constituency Amethi today, surrounding his car and shouting slogans demanding a hike in pay.

The women, aanganwadi workers, said they wanted to meet Mr Gandhi and convey their demand. Rahul Gandhi is one of the most protected politicians in the country and the protesters were swiftly removed by police personnel, allowing the convoy to move ahead.

Mr Gandhi later met the women, who handed him a representation with their demands.

The Congress leader, who is in his constituency on a three-day visit ending today, has encountered other protests too, with some village workers alleging that they are unable to meet their VIP lawmaker to discuss their problems with him.

Mr Gandhi criticised earlier by opposition parties for not visiting Amethi often enough, has made regular trips to his constituency this year.
