Rahul Gandhi To Become Party Chief At 'Appropriate Time': Kumari Selja

Kumari Selja said the party would welcome Priyanka Gandhi in any role.

Jaipur: Expressing confidence in the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, former Union minister Kumari Selja on Saturday said that he would become the party chief at "appropriate time", while rejecting the "misconception" of the party being run by Gandhi dynasty.

"Rahul Gandhi would become the party president but it is the matter of time," she said.

"Victory and defeat are a part of the elections. The party is reviewing the results of the recent Assembly elections and will improve our performance under the able leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi," she said.

The former Union minister said the party would contest the 2017 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and put up a good show.

Ms Selja said the party would welcome Priyanka Gandhi in any role.

On being asked about the performance of the NDA-led Centre as it completes two years in office, the Congress leader said the government "failed" to keep its promises and the PM closed his eyes towards corruption.

"PM has turned a blind eye to the corruption taking place under his rule. He was not able to see Vyapam scam of Madhya Pradesh and mines scam in Rajasthan. The government has neglected the interest of farmers and poors. When the bad debts of corporate sector can be written off, why doesn't the government take this move for farmers," she asked.

The Congress MP also hit out at the "misconception" created by BJP that the party was run by Gandhi dynasty.

"This is a misconception. Congress has leaders at all levels and on their voice, Sonia Gandhi took charge of the party. There have been prime ministers who were not from the Gandhi dynasty," she added.
