Punjab Government Recommends CBI Probe Into Attack On RSS Leader

Punjab RSS leader Jagdish Gagneja was shot at in Jalandhar on August 6 by two men caught on camera.

Chandigarh: With no breakthrough by the Punjab police in the attack on RSS leader Jagdish Kumar Gagneja for over a fortnight, the Parkash Singh Badal-led government has recommended a CBI probe into the case.

"The Punjab government has decided to transfer the case of attack on Brigadier(retd) Jagdish Gagneja to the CBI in view of the links of the alleged perpetrators with anti-national forces residing in foreign countries," said a press statement issued.

Vice President of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Punjab Unit, Brigadier Jagdish Gagneja (retired) was shot at by two men on a motorcycle in a busy market area of Jalandhar on August 6. He is currently undergoing treatment at DMC Hospital in Ludhiana where his condition is stated to be critical.

Senior BJP and RSS leaders had met Home Minister Rajnath Singh after the attack and expressed concern over the law and order situation in Punjab. The centre has deputed 15 companies of paramilitary forces in 11 major districts of Punjab.
