Srinagar: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has said the Jammu and Kashmir government will use the Prime Minister's Rs 80,000 crore package to give fresh relief to the flood-hit people and revive the process of rehabilitation, reconstruction and economic rejuvenation on a massive scale.

"With the announcement of the fresh Rs 80,000 crore economic package by the Prime Minister, the state government is going to revive the process of rehabilitation, reconstruction and economic rejuvenation on a massive scale and the results will be there for the people to see," Ms Mehbooba, who is also a Lok Sabha member, told PDP office bearers' meeting in Srinagar yesterday.

She said the package would not only ensure fresh relief for those affected in last year's floods, but also bring a turnaround in key sectors like road communication, health, education, tourism, power and urban development with huge resources being made available for new initiatives in these areas.

"I am sure the quantum of resources available for these crucial sectors, would transform the developmental landscape of the state and the people would get the much-needed relief after having witnessed the darkest era of misgovernance and development deficit during the past six years of NC-Congress coalition rule," she said.

Ms Mufti complimented PDP cadres for having successfully carried the party's political and economic agenda to the grassroots level.

"It is inspiring to note how PDP cadres have and continue to sacrifice their personal interests for the larger objective of ensuring peace, prosperity and dignity of Jammu and Kashmir and its people," she said.

Thanking the PDP cadres for having turned up in large numbers at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally here last week, Ms Mufti said the party cadres welcomed the Prime Minister with the distinctive tradition of hospitality, for which Kashmiris are known the world over.

"The optimism of our cadres that Jammu and Kashmir is headed for political stability and economic prosperity is driven by the party's vision of a future that holds promise of peace and prosperity for its people who have suffered immensely because of the decades-long political uncertainty, economic deprivation and misgovernance," she said.

She said PDP's core agenda revolves around the ideals of politically stable and economically vibrant future for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

PDP has entered into an alliance with BJP to seek, as per its "Agenda of Alliance", national reconciliation on the political and economic challenges confronting Jammu and Kashmir, Ms Mufti said.

She said the purpose of this alliance is to catalyse reconciliation and confidence-building within and across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir to create an enabling environment for sustainable peace, all-round economic development and prosperity in the state.
