Pakistan Fires at Indian Posts Along Line of Control on Independence Day

Jammu: On India's Independence Day today, the Pakistan Army used mortars and automatic weapons on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Military spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told news agency IANS in Jammu that the Pakistani army "resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing at our positions" at 7:30 am in Poonch district.

"They are using 82 mm mortars and automatics to target our positions in Mandi and Saujiyan sectors," he said.

"Our troops are appropriately and effectively retaliating. Firing exchanges are still going on at these places," he said.

The spokesman also said that the Pakistanis had violated the ceasefire at the two sectors during the night as well.

"They violated the ceasefire from midnight to 3 am also. After that the shelling and firing stopped till 7:30 am. Now it has resumed."
