New CCTV Footage of Gurdaspur Terrorists at 4.58 am on Day of Attack

A grab from the new CCTV footage shows the three terrorists in Army fatigues before they launched the attack.

Gurdaspur: Investigators have found more CCTV footage of the three terrorists who unleashed a massive terror attack in the Punjab town of Dinanagar on Monday, killing 10 people.

The new footage is from a camera installed at the office of a finance company and clearly captures the three men striding past at 4.58 am in army fatigues, some time before they struck at a police station in the Gurdaspur town, very close to the border with Pakistan.

Footage from another security camera placed at a major intersection just before they entered Dinanagar had showed the men walking down the road minutes earlier at 4.55 am. The CCTV cameras at the police station were not working, cops have said.

Before they attacked the police station, the terrorists tried unsuccessfully to snatch a tempo from its driver, killing a dhaba owner in the process. Next, they opened fire on a bus, injuring six passengers and then attacked a man driving a Maruti 800, injuring him and hijacking his car.

Investigators are analysing data from two GPS devices that the terrorists, killed after a 12 hour gun battle with the police, were carrying. They have so far concluded from reference points programmed into the devices that the attack was planned six days before the strike, on July 21.

Readings from the GPS also suggest that the terrorists walked for about 12 km to reach Dinanagar, which supports the theory that they crossed over from Pakistan at a point on the border where the states of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir converge.

From the empty building inside the Dinanagar police station where the terrorists holed up as they exchanged fire with the Punjab Police, Chinese-made grenades, AK-47 guns and ammunition, eight live bombs and a night vision device were also found, pointing to a well-planned attack.

Also, the Dinanagar police station was programmed into the GPS devices suggesting that it was the intended target of the three terrorists.
