New Delhi: Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Wednesday demanded Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu's resignation over the twin train accident in Madhya Pradesh.

At least 27 people were killed in Madhya Pradesh's Harda district when the Varanasi-bound Kamayani Express and Mumbai-bound Janata Express trains derailed and fell into Kali Machak river around midnight on Tuesday, authorities said on Wednesday.

Demanding Mr Prabhu's resignation, Mr Singh tweeted: "What is happening Mr Prabhu? We always considered you to be a good minister. May I remind you? Shastri-ji resigned after a train accident."

Expressing his grief over the mishap, the Digvijaya Singh said: "Deeply grieved to hear about the deaths in the train accident in Madhya Pradesh. Accountability must be fixed. Heads must roll. Would they? No."

"Because BJP doesn't believe in fixing accountability and taking action. Why? As Rajnath Ji said 'in BJP no one resigns. We are not Congress'," Mr Singh tweeted.

The Congress leader went on to say that Mr Prabhu would not resign as he was in "bad company".

"Madhav Rao Scindhia resigned after a plane crash. But we know you won't you are in bad company who don't know the meaning of accountability," he said.
