Kedarnath, Yamunotri Pilgrimages Halted As Rains Pound Uttarakhand

Dozens of landslides and landslips have plagued Uttarakhand as incessant rains pound the state.

Dehradun: Incessant rains battered Uttarakhand leading authorities to halt the pilgrimages to the shrine of Kedarnath and Yamunotri for a day.

For almost a week the state has been hit by heavy rains spurring dozens of landslips and landslides all over Uttarakhand.

An alert for inclement weather has been issued for regions including Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Almora and Nainital for the next 24 hours.

Long queues of vehicles were held up on roads after debris on roads blocked the path for the Kedarnath Yatra and the Yamunotri highway near Raadi.

Afflicted by blocked roads, Arvind Singh a resident of Haridwar said, "We managed to call the disaster management control room in Dehradun but there was no swift action on part of the administration."
