Gujarat Government Promotes IPS Officer Geeta Johri, 3 Others

In 2006, IPS officer Geeta Johri headed investigations into the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter and the killing of his wife Kausarbi.

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government promoted IPS officer Geeta Johri to the rank of DGP, while three other officers were also elevated today.

Ms Johri, who initially investigated the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, presently serves as Managing Director of the Gujarat State Police Housing Corporation in Gandhinagar.

She has been promoted from the rank of Additional DGP to Director General of Police and she will continue at her present post as Managing Director of the Gujarat State Police Housing Corporation, according to a Gujarat home department official notification issued in Ahmedabad today.

Ms Johri had filed a first investigation report (FIR) in the Supreme Court in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case and the sudden disappearance of his wife Kausar Bi which eventually led to the arrest of three IPS officers, two of them from Gujarat including DG Vanzara and the other from Rajasthan.

ADGP CID (Crime and Railways) Pramod Kumar has been promoted as DGP and he will continue to serve in the same post, the notification stated.

IGP level officers who were promoted include KK Ojha, currently serving as Principal of Police Training Centre in Junagadh as well as PB Gondia, serving as Joint Director with the Civil Defence Organisation in the city. Both these IPS officers belong to the 1987 batch and have been promoted as ADGP, the notification stated.

As per the notification, all these officers will continue to serve at their current postings after promotion.
