New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal today met Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi and demanded that a special session of Parliament be convened to discuss issues pertaining to women's safety.

Ms Gandhi welcomed the idea and pledged her support for the cause, Ms Maliwal said.

"Our agenda of meeting Maneka Gandhi was that a special session of Parliament should be convened to discuss issues pertaining to women safety.

"She said that she will push the idea ahead and pledged support to the Commission," Ms Maliwal said after the meeting.

The newly appointed DCW chief said that both of them (she and Gandhi) had a holistic discussion on issues faced by women in the national capital, GB road, Delhi's largest red light area, among others.

"It was a positive meeting. Ideas were exchanged and we have decided to work on proposals ahead. We will hold series of discussions with NGOs and we have assured her that we ready to work in coordination with the Central and the state governments," she said.
