Caught On Camera: Undertrial Beaten Up In Punjab's Bathinda Jail

Bathinda: A video surfaced on the social media today purportedly showing an undertrial at Bathinda central prison being stripped naked and thrashed by fellow inmates.

The undertrial, identified as Darbara Singh Shantu, was lodged in the jail for allegedly attacking a BJP leader Gurbinder Singh Bhagta in November 2015, police said.

In the video, one of the inmates, identified as Manoj Mauji Dyalpura, was seen stripping Shantu while others took turns to thrash him with kicks and punches.

The video was reportedly shot on the evening of January 26 when the inmates thrashed Shantu allegedly for attacking Bhagta.

Dyalpura had been booked in 18 cases, registered at different police stations, officials said.

A case was today registered under the Prisons Act against four persons -- Manoj Mauji, Mandeep Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Sukhjindr Singh in this regard, Station House Officer, Civil Lines, Angrej Singh said.

He further said two policemen -- Head Constable Harrajwant Singh and Constable Kuldeep Singh, deployed in the jail were suspended.
