BJP Lodges Complaint Against Naveen Patnaik Over Fire In Odisha Hospital

The fire that broke out at the SUM hospital in Bhubaneswar on Monday left 21 people dead

Bhubaneswar: Odisha BJP today lodged a police complaint against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, naming them as accused in the SUM Hospital fire incident that claimed 21 lives.

Lodging the complaint at Capital police station here, the party demanded that Mr Patnaik and Mr Nayak be made co-accused in the case.

As Fire Services is under the Home department, headed by the Chief Minister, Patnaik should also be held responsible for violation of fire safety rules, BJP said in the FIR.

The party also demanded resignation of the Health Minister.

Meanwhile, welcoming the arrest of SUM Hospital owner Manojranjan Nayak in connection with Monday's fire incident, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram demanded action against state government officials, who allowed the private hospital to run without proper fire safety measures.

"It is good that the hospital owner has been arrested. But the state government officials who helped the private hospital run the facility without permission should also be booked," he said, adding that he holds both hospital and the government responsible for the mishap.

The BJP leader added though five functionaries of SUM Hospital have been arrested, no state government official has been booked.
