A police case has been filed against controversial BJP lawmaker Sakshi Maharaj for allegedly using foul language and threatening police officers while addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri.
Sakshi Maharaj, a lawmaker from Unnao, allegedly made inflammatory speeches against the state government at a rally held on Tuesday. The rally was held to protest against the arrest of state BJP leader Maidan Singh, said local police officer Himanshu Kumar. (doesn't say why. Will find out and add)
In his speech, the lawmaker also allegedly used abusive language against the police and threatened to "take revenge" if the BJP came to power in the state after the Assembly polls in 2017. He threatened that if policemen reach Fardpur again they would be "shot", the officer said.
A case has been filed against Sakshi Maharaj and former legislator Naresh Agnihotri, who also attended the rally, he added.
Sakshi Maharaj has frequently courted controversy with his remarks. Last year, he had demanded that death penalty be given in cases of cow slaughter. He had also said Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi was "mad" and compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Lord Krishna.
