Ajmer: A chadar or sheet on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was offered at the famous Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer today.

"I offered the Chadar on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his message, the PM has wished for the welfare of the nation. He wishes India to be the top county in the world and wants that the benefit of the development reaches to all the people of the country," union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters.

On Saturday, a chadar was offered at the Dargah on behalf of US President Barack Obama - it was handed over to Haji Syed Salman Chishty, Director of the Chishty Foundation by the US Ambassador in India Richard Verma. Congress president Sonia Gandhi's chadar will be offered tomorrow by the Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot.

The 803rd Urs or death anniversary of the sufi saint began in the Rajasthan city yesterday. Traditionally, all prime ministers offer chadars at the Dargah, specially during Urs. This was Mr Modi's first offering as Prime Minster; he took office in May last year.

The Urs is observed every year in April over six days to mark the death of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Thousands of pilgrims visit the shrine at this time.
