Chandigarh: Congress leader and Punjab's former chief minister Amarinder Singh will begin a three-day Kisan Yatra today from Chandigarh, which will be flagged off by widows of farmers who committed suicide after not being able to pay off their debts.

Brand shining the campaign message of 'Karza-Kurki Khatam, Fasal Di Poori Rakam' (finish debts, get full price for crops), a hi-tech bus has been designed for the tour of Punjab. The bus has a hydraulic platform from where Mr Singh will address the various farmer meetings along the way. A microphone and speaker system has been fitted inside to enable the bus to double up as a mobile public address platform for impromptu meetings.

Following on the footsteps of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who largely toured Uttar Pradesh and addressed Khat Sabhas or public meetings of farmers, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President will begin his campaign from the Congress Bhawan, where farmers' widows have been specially invited to join the party's efforts to alleviate the sufferings of the farming class in the state.

The 500 km yatra will cover Moga, Faridkot, Ludhiana, Bhatinda, Muktsar, Jalalabad and Ferozpur.

A statement of the Punjab Congress said the campaign was much more than a symbolic gesture. Congress has already promised to waive off farmers' loans once it comes to power and that said that no farm land will be confiscated from debt ridden farmers.
