Kolkata: Army Chief General Dalbir Singh visited areas in the north-east bordering China to review the security preparedness in the region. The two-day visit on September 5 and 6 came as insurgent groups became active again in the northeast.

The Army Chief was briefed on operational readiness and internal security situation by the Lt General D Anbu of the Gajraj Corps, which is deployed in the region.

The General was also updated on the security situation in Assam. He said he was satisfied with the way the army had conducted operations to bring insurgency under control in the area.

The Chief of Army Staff also reviewed the defence preparedness of Gajraj Corps, which is deployed on the line of Actual Control.

The army chief also visited Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, one of the remotest outposts where the army men serve in extreme conditions. Arunachal Pradesh shares a 1,046 km border with China.

Last month, General Suhag visited north Kashmir, where the army has been coping with the unrest that has on for 60 days, since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani.
