5 AIIMS-Like Institutions To Be Set Up: J P Nadda

New Delhi: Government has decided to set up five new AIIMS-like institutions in different parts of the country and has received proposals from 17 states which will be taken up in a phased manner, Health Minister J P Nadda said today.

"Proposals have been received from 17 states for setting up of new AIIMS-like institutions. Government has decided to take up these new AIIMS-like institutions in a phased manner," Mr. Nadda told the Lok Sabha.

Government has decided to set up these institutions at Mangalagiri (Andhra Pradesh), Kalyani (West Bengal), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Bhatinda (Punjab), he said during Question Hour.

Besides, announcements have been made for establishing AIIMS-like institutions in Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Assam and one more in Bihar.

"The sites for AIIMS in Assam, J&K have already been finalised," the Minister said.

Responding to a query about setting up an AIIMS in Jharkhand, Minister of State Faggan Singh Kulaste said it would be looked into.

Jharkhand government has identified the location for new AIIMS at Devipur in Deoghar.

Mr. Nadda emphasised that the government is committed to implementing notifications issued for setting up medical colleges in states.

To a question about the proposal for setting up the Shivpur Medical College in Madhya Pradesh, Nadda said Detailed Project Report (DPR) is awaited and assured that the government "will go faster" on it.
