3 Killed As Rains Lash Parts Of Uttar Pradesh

Weather department said rain and thunder showers are likely at places over east Uttar Pradesh tomorrow.

Lucknow/Muzaffarnagar/Mathura: Three people were killed and several others injured in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh, where south-west monsoon remained active since yesterday, officials said.

A 5-year-old girl was killed and five members of her family, including parents and siblings, injured today as their house at Lakadsangha village under Sader tehsil in Muzaffarnagar collapsed amid heavy rains, police said.

In a similar incident in Muzaffarnagar, which has been lashed by heavy rains since yesterday, four of a family were injured when their house in Chandsina village collapsed last evening, they said.

A 25-year-old man died in Joravpur area of Balrampur district yesterday while he was grazing his cattle.

A 40-year-old woman, Pushpa Devi, died after her house at Ganesara village in Mathura tehsil collapsed, Additional District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar said.

Several parts of the district remained water-clogged and houses in many villages were inundated even as heavy rains paralysed life in the pilgrim city.

Over half a dozen areas in Mathura, including New Bus stand, Bhuteshwar, Baldeo Ashram, Regency Garden, Krishna Nagar, Holi Gate, were severely waterlogged.

According to MeT department, the amount of rainfall recorded in the state was, Jalesar 31 cms, Mathura 23 cms, Lalgang 19 cms, Mirzapur 18 cms, Aligarh 15 cms, Budhana and Azamgarh 13 cms each, while Kaiserganj, Jaunpur, Mohamdabad, Bhatpurwaghat, Deoband received 12 cms each, Karhal 11 cms and Agra 10 cms.

Mahrajganj, Sahaswan, Baheri and Mirzapur recorded 9 cms each, Salampur, Zamania, Chunar, Gunnaur, Bareilly, Bijnor and Saharanpur 8 cms each, and Chatnag, Rasra, Haidergarh, Narora, Hathras and Muzaffarpur 7 cms each, it said.

The weather department said rain and thunder showers are likely at many places over east Uttar Pradesh and at a few places over western parts of the state tomorrow.
