2 Army Personnel Killed, 3 Injured In Encounter In Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation on Saturday following information about presence of terrorists in Avneera village of Zainapora area of the district, a police official said.

Srinagar: Two army personnel have been killed and three others, including a captain, have been injured in an encounter with terrorists in Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir, the police said. The body of a terrorist has been found.


Security forces launched a cordon and search operation on Saturday following information about the presence of terrorists in Avneera village of Zainapora area of the district, a police official said.

As security personnel were conducting searches, the terrorists opened fire on them, prompting the army to retaliate, leading to a gunbattle.

Five soldiers were injured in the gunbattle, the police official said, adding that they were evacuated to the 92 Base Hospital of the Army for treatment, where two among died due to the injuries.
