Hyderabad Rains: Tech Companies Ask Employees To Work From Home

After heavy rains and flooding, IT companies in Hyderabad allowed employees to work from home.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government Friday asked IT companies to allow their employees to work from home, as heavy rains continued to lash Hyderabad for the third consecutive day. The state administration has already declared a holiday for educational institutions in the city.

Senior government official Jayesh Ranjan said the government had sent an advisory to IT companies to either declare a holiday or allow their employees to work from home following forecast of heavy rains.

"We have asked the association to send an advisory to all the IT companies located in the city. Accordingly, they issued advisory to all the IT firms. This is in the interest of safety of the employees. The response from companies is good," Mr Ranjan said.

The government has asked the army to help in rescue operation as some parts of the city remained flooded, an official of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation said.

"The army has agreed to our request for helping out with relief and rescue operations. They have been provided maps for areas like Gachibowli, Nizampet, Alwal, and Hakimpet. They are on standby and will help out when required," he said.

Yesterday Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao reviewed the situation and asked officials to take all precautions in view of heavy rains being forecast over the next few days.

State IT Minister KT Rama Rao, along with senior officials, toured the city last night and reviewed the situation. He instructed officials to evacuate people from low-lying areas.

Heavy rains have affected normal life in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana. Some areas like Miyapur and Nizampet remain flooded since Wednesday.
