Washington: An Indian-American is organising a collaborative game development event in the US state of Florida, that seeks to make exciting video games about space travel and exploration, a media report said.

Kunal Patel in partnership with Peter Smith launched the "Indie Galactic Space Jam" on Thursday to allow developers and engineers from the video game and space industry to come together and attempt to rapidly prototype a game (video or otherwise) focused on some element of space in a limited amount of time, US-based WMFE.org reported today.

"Space travel and research and the things NASA and SpaceX and all these other space companies are doing, they take decades and they take billions of dollars, sometimes trillions of dollars, to do these kinds of things and we can do them here on earth for a whole lot less," Patel was quoted as saying.

"We have a lot of talented people that can create some pretty amazing simulations," he added.

Followed by a night of "funny, interesting and inspiring talks about space and video games" on Thursday, the participants were given an opportunity to join a team of their choice on Friday.

The 48 hour "non-stop game building action" began on Saturday morning and will be wrapped up on Sunday, the organisers said.
