He is just a school boy. But, Prajwal Sehrawat is already a hero. He risked his life and jumped into a water tank which had electric cables hanging precariously
over the water to save six year old Divyansh Kakrora.
As the staff and teachers including the swimming coach of Ryan International School stood and watched, Prajwal jumped into the tank,
a magistrate probing into Divyansh's death notes in the inquiry report. The report recommends a bravery reward for Prajwal.
But, the Class XI student's concerns lie elsewhere. "He jumped in to save the boy. But, he has been traumatised since then as Divyansh couldn't be saved," Prajwal's close relative told NDTV over the phone.
Six-year-old Divyansh studied first grade.
"When the body of Divyansh was spotted, none of the school authorities responded. Swimming coach, teachers, games instructor, gardeners were available but none responded. In absence of the XI class student, (it is) possible, body of the child could not have been rescued," the magistrate's inquiry report reveals.
"Prajwal never thought of a bravery award. Of course he didn't jump in thinking about that," his relative says. He'd rather prepare for his exams that begin in a few days than speak with the media, she adds. "We are very proud of him, and the fact that he has reacted so responsibly."
Till last Saturday, when Prajwal jumped in and brought out Divyansh's body from the school's water tank, he hadn't known the six year old. The teenager, who is also an NCC cadet, told his parents that the water tank, close to the amphitheatre always remained locked. But on January 30, it had been left open.
