New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party today alleged that Prashant Bhushan, whom it had expelled last year, had "approved" the candidature of Sandeep Kumar for the 2015 Assembly polls, triggering a sharp reaction from the top lawyer.

Mr Bhushan tweeted that it was a measure of AAP's "desperation, that after being caught with their pants down, they allege that I had recommended ticket to Sandeep Kumar."

According to Yogendra Yadav, who was also expelled over allegations of anti-party activities, the real problem was that AAP has "turned into an election machine, pursued 'success at all cost'."

AAP leader Ashutosh had earlier dared Mr Bhushan to accept that he had cleared Mr Kumar's name. "...you should have moral courage to accept you approved Sandeep's candidature in 2013 assembly elections?"

Swaraj Abhiyan, a forum floated by Mr Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav, also put out a statement saying that the scandal involving Kumar was sad but not surprising.

"AAP had not undertaken the exercise of filtering its candidates through a due process even after suggestions, warning and red flags by Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav," it said.

Swaraj Abhiyan sought to know whether AAP acts only when a case becomes undeniable and indefensible. "Will the Aam Aadmi Party take proactive action and inquire about similar complaints propping up in Punjab?"

Referring to the sackings of former Ministers Jitendra Singh Tomar, Asim Ahmed Khan over separate cases, Swaraj Abhiyan questioned their continued presence in the party.

"Kejriwal ji should answer whether or not he considers it 'objectionable' to continue to have such people in the party?" it asked.

Mr Kumar was sacked from the Delhi Cabinet yesterday after a purported CD having "objectionable" clips of the legislator surfaced.
