New Delhi: Former Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar, arrested in a fake degree case, was today taken to Bundelkhand University in Jhansi to verify his migration certificate which, Delhi Police said, too was found to be fake.

The migration certificate was allegedly used by Mr Tomar to obtain his law degree from Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in Bihar.

The Delhi Police team, in presence of university officials and Mr Tomar, verified the migration certificate and it was also found to be fake, said a senior police officer.

Now, Mr Tomar will be brought back to Delhi for further questioning and will be interrogated in presence of his brother who had allegedly helped him in procuring his fake academic documents, the officer said.

"Tomar is not cooperating in investigation although he has been nailed by us. We will grill him in front of his brother and will cross check their statements. Role of his brother was found in procuring fake degrees," the officer said.

Another police team has been sent to Munger to further probe the law degree of Mr Tomar which he allegedly got from a college there. The college is affiliated to Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University where police had earlier taken him, added the officer.

49-year-old Tomar, MLA from Trinagar, was arrested in the morning of June 9 following an investigation into a complaint by the Bar Council of Delhi that he had obtained a fake law degree from the Bihar college.

An FIR was registered against Mr Tomar on June 8 at Hauz Khas police station and he was booked for alleged offences of cheating, forgery, using forged documents as genuine, forgery with intent to cheat and criminal conspiracy.
