New Delhi: In a recent inspection of schools carried out by the Delhi government, it was found that admissions under economically weaker section (EWS) category were given without proper verification and in some cases students were admitted on the basis of forged and fake income certificates.

After the inspections, orders were issued to register FIRs against Chairmen, Principles and parents of the students.

An inspection of a school in Rohini was conducted by a team led by the sub-divisional magistrate.

"During the inspection we found that the school had granted admission to nine students on the basis of forged/fake income certificates under the EWS category.

"It appears that the school management in connivance with parents has indulged in such grave malpractices. You are directed to lodge FIRs against the Chairman and Principal of the concerned school and against the respective parents at the earliest," said the order dated yesterday.

Also inspections were carried out at a school in Pitampura on April 13 and bogus certificates were found following which government has directed an FIR to be lodged.

"The photocopies of 88 EWS certificates in respect of EWS students for the year 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 were checked in the office and 68 certificates were found to be bogus," said the order dated May 13.

Also during an inspection at a school in Rohini on April 30, it was found that the school had granted admissions to eight students on the basis of forged income certificates under the EWS category.

Sub-divisional magistrate ordered an FIR against the Chairman, Principal and parents of the school on May 10.

Delhi government on April 21 had issued a circular on this issue to all school principals.

"It is observed that due diligence/verification of these EWS certificates is not done by the respective principals/management of schools  at the time of admission.

"As a result, unscrupulous elements are getting undue benefit while eligible deserving and poor students are deprived of admissions under the EWS quota besides other facilities which such unscrupulous elements claim on account of such forged caste and income certificates," the circular read.

Despite attempts, schools could not be contacted.
