However, Jagdeep Singh took to Twitter to claim that it was a "rumour".

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party legislator Jagdeep Singh was today arrested for allegedly assaulting the manager of a waste management company and later granted bail, police said.

"Mr Singh had been arrested under IPC sections 323 (causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 341 (wrongful restraint). He was later granted bail," DCP (west) Pushpendra Kumar said.

However, Jagdeep Singh took to Twitter to claim that it was a "rumour".

"I am at home its only a rumour," he tweeted.

Despite several attempts he could not be contacted.

Jagdeep Singh is the seventh AAP legislator to be arrested by Delhi Police after former Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar, Manoj Kumar, Surinder Singh, Somnath Bharti, Akhilesh Tripathi and Mahendra Yadav.

According to police, the incident took place on May 21 when some locals approached the complainant, Mohit, for a truck to be used for Shab-e-Baraat celebrations and he refused.

The locals then forcibly took over the truck, which led to a heated argument between them and employees of the waste management company.

Soon Mr Singh intervened and a scuffle broke out. Mr Singh allegedly thrashed Mohit, who is the manager of the company.

However, the case was registered on May 23, two days after the alleged incident took place.
