Thane Family Booked For Abetment Of Girl's Suicide

Thane: Four members of a family, including the boyfriend of a 19-year-old girl, were today booked on charges of abetting the teenager's suicide, police said.

According to API T I Thatkar of Ganespuri Police station the girl was in love with a 20-year-old boy from Kunde village in Bhiwandi Taluka.

The family of the boy was doubtful that the duo would marry and were not ready to accept her as their daughter-in-law.

Three members of the boy's family then beat up the girl on July 2, a complaint by the victim's brother said.

The complaint further said that the victim and her accused lover eloped, but instead of taking her home, the boy abandoned her half way through.

Subsequently the trio again abused the victim and beat her up publicly at the Kunda Phata chowk accusing her of kidnapping the boy.

Disturbed, the girl hanged herself to death on July 4 at her house, police said.

The police gave the names of the accused as Ajit Jayant Thule, Sujata Jayant Thule, Shweta Santosh Gaikwad and Santosh Gaikwad.

The four have been booked under sections 306 r/w 34 of the IPC.

However, no arrest has been made so far in connection with the incident.

Initially a case of accidental death was registered but
further investigations revealed abetment of suicide, police
added.
