Leopard Scare Grips Mussoorie With Twin Sightings In A Week

CCTV footage of Mussorie's Nirankari Bhawan shows a leopard striding along Camel's Back Road.

Mussoorie: Multiple CCTV footage of a leopard striding along Mussoorie's famous Camel's Back Road and Landour Cantonment area has sparked fear in the minds of residents of the hill town.

A leopard was seen prowling on Camel's Back Road in the recording of two CCTVs installed at Nirankari Bhawan around 11 pm. Across the city, morning walkers in Landour Cantonment area spotted a mother leopard with her two cubs several times in past week.

It remains unclear though if the leopard caught on Nirankari Bhawan's CCTV is the same female leopard without her cubs or another leopard.

The densely populated Camel's Back Road neighbours Mussoorie's popular Mall road which sees a number of people every day.

Zonal in-charge of the town's Nirankari Bhawan, Harbhajan Singh, said: "The incident came to light when the video was seen during the night guard's shift switch."

Even though the hill town is surrounded by dense forest, leopard sightings at this time of the year are startling. Abha Saili, a retired school principal and a resident of the area, asserts: "Leopards sightings in the heart of winter is not uncommon here, but it is unheard of so early in autumn."

Meanwhile, as the winter just begins to stretch its arms in the town, people are worried what may come next.
