Cycling Ban On Mussoorie's Mall Road To Be Overturned Soon

Cycling Ban On Mussoorie's Mall Road To Be Overturned Soon

cycling ban on Mussoorie's Mall Road maybe be overturned.

Mussoorie: Two weeks after cycling on Mussoorie's famous 3 and a half km long Mall Road was banned, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has said it would be lifted soon.

A delegation of 26 enthusiasts from Making A Difference (MAD) organisation met Mr Rawat late Sunday night apprising him of the issue.

"The chief minister called the District Magistrate right away and asked him to overturn this blanket ban and to ensure cycles are allowed to ply on the road," said Abhijay Negi, the young director of MAD.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Mussoorie, Jitender Kumar, while placing the ban had earlier mentioned, "Cycles are creating a nuisance. There have been several complaints about young men having hurt individuals while riding fast. This is tourist season and people on the mall are finding it difficult to walk. So we collectively decided to put a stop to cycles."

The ban on cycling was seen as regressive by not only those earning a living but for health enthusiasts as well, who welcomed promoting green conveyance on the otherwise overcrowded Mall Road.

Jatin Kapoor, co-founder Alternate Atlas and Vipul Vashishtha of Outdoor Yeti, who were amongst the first to bring the green wheels to town, said they feel that this move will go a long way in ensuring that at least for the time being, some sanity is restored to the Mussoorie Mall which is otherwise buckling under the weight of vehicular traffic.
