At Least 25 Killed in Bangladesh Bus Crash

Dhaka: At least 25 people were killed in Bangladesh on Monday when two passenger buses collided head-on, police said.

More than two dozen people were injured in the accident at Baraigram, 200 kilometres (125 miles) west of Dhaka, said district police chief Basudev Banik, warning the death toll could rise.

"It was a nasty collision: both the buses were severely mangled. So far the death toll is 25," Mr Banik told AFP.

"The condition of some of the injured is very critical," he said.

Bangladesh has one of the world's highest death rates from transport accidents, due mainly to the poor state of roads and vehicles and a failure to comply with road rules.
