New Delhi: The comment made by Jitendra Singh - union minister of state in the Prime Minister's Office in the Narendra Modi-led government - about holding a debate on Article 370 has sparked off a major political row. Leaders of various political parties, notably those from Jammu and Kashmir, as well as senior leaders of the RSS, the BJP's ideological mentor, have given their take on the contentious issue.
  • If BJP really wants to bring Jammu and Kashmir closer to the rest of the country, they should not talk about abolishing Article 370. Instead they should talk about strengthening it. I hope this the last time we hear about abolishing 370.
    Mehbooba Mufti, PDP President
  • Things which aren't politically possible, numerically feasible and constututionally correct are being thrown into the hotpot to politicise and polarise ... we condemn it unequivocally This isn't a flip-flop, it is premeditated...
Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Member of Parliament
  • They (BJP government at the centre) cannot abrogate Article 370 till the Constituent Assembly is recalled. The Constituent Assembly approved accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India. If you want to raise the question once again, then you need to bring the Constituent Assembly and then we will talk
    Omar Abdullah, J&K Chief Minister
  • Jammu and Kashmir won't be part of India? Is Omar thinking it's his parental estate? 370 or no 370 Jammu and Kashmir has been and will always be an integral part of India
    Ram Madhav, Senior RSS leader
  • I remember that Narendra Modi has said to debate on Article 370 in his Jammu Rally. They have taken a mandate on Article 370 and it is a part of their unwritten manifesto. Kashmir is a big and an international issue. I can not change his ideology.
    Azam Khan, Cabinet Minister
