Eight die after consuming alcohol in Patna

Patna, Bihar: Eight persons died after allegedly consuming alcohol in the Mehndiganj and Khajekala area of the Bihar's capital city on Friday, officials said.

According to a report, seven persons died in Mehndiganj area in the city and another in Khajekala locality in old Patna in the early hours, they said.

District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh said one body was sent for post mortem examination, while the bodies of five others were cremated by their family.

The families of two others were being convinced to provide the bodies for post mortem examination, Singh said. Three of the victims were aged above 70 years, the District Magistrate added.

Incidents of alcohol poisoning deaths have occurred in Bihar recently in which more than 50 people lost their lives, following which the administration has cracked down on the illicit liquor trade.
