Lucknow: The badly mutilated body of a woman was found this morning from a school in Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow. The police are investigating whether she was raped.

The 25-year-old woman's bloodied body was found by local people just six kilometres from a village that former US president Bill Clinton visited on Monday.

The police say she was killed last night at the government-run school in the city's Bahadurkheda area, where there had been tight security for Mr Clinton's visit.

The woman was allegedly stripped and stabbed several times. There were stab wounds even on her private parts. The police suspect she was raped and brutalized with an object like a crowbar.

The post mortem report is expected tomorrow.

Large patches of blood were left on the ground even after the body was taken away. The woman has not been identified. The police are trying to match her with missing person records.

A spurt in rapes and killings in the state in recent months has left the Akhilesh Yadav government flailing. In May, two girls were found hanging from a tree. The girls, who were cousins, were allegedly beaten and hanged alive.

Indian laws on crimes against women went through sweeping changes following the outrage over the Delhi gang-rape in December, 2012. A 23-year-old woman was raped and tortured with an iron rod on a moving bus by six men. She died in a hospital in Singapore 13 days later.
