Sub-Zero Temperatures in Higher Reaches of Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: Intense cold wave conditions gripped high-altitude areas, high mountain passes and other higher hills of Himachal Pradesh as snowfall occurred at isolated places in the tribal belt, while some places in mid and lower hills received light rains today.

The Rohtang, Kunzam and Saach passes witnessed another spell of mild snowfall while Manali and Kalpa received 2 to 4 mm of rains, according to the Meteorological department.
The high-altitude tribal areas reeled under sub-zero temperatures, with the mercury staying two to five degrees below the freezing point, it said.

The minimum temperature dipped to 3.3 degree Celsius, 4.8 degrees and 5.6 degrees at Keylong, Kalpa and Manlai while Solan, Shimla and Bhuntar recorded a low of 8.5 degree, 10.6 degree and 10.8 degrees, respectively, two to three degrees below normal.

However, the maximum temperature rose marginally by one to two degrees. Una was the hottest in the region with a high of 31 degrees, followed by Bhunter 27.6 degrees, Sundernagar 27 degree, Dharamshala and Solan 24.6 degrees each, Nahan 22.8 degrees, Shimla 20.2 degree, Kalpa 19.0 degree and Manali 18.1 degree Celsius.

The MeT office has predicted dry weather for mid and lower hills for the next five days and moderate to heavy rains at many places on October 31.
