Union Minister Jitendra Singh today sought HRD Ministry intervention on issue of difficulty being faced by students of Jammu and Kashmir in getting admission in various colleges under a Prime Minister's special scholarship scheme.
Mr Singh met Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani to explain her about the problems being faced by the students due to refusal of admission in the respective colleges allotted to them under the 'Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme for J&K' in spite of all the formalities and procedural requirements having been duly completed by them.
Explaining the problem, Mr Singh said scholarships are awarded to eligible students of J&K who are admitted to different colleges or institutes through a centralised counselling process carried out by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), an official release said.
Under the same scheme, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has created two seats under supernumerary quota in all recognised higher education institutions including the University of Delhi, said Singh, Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office.
It is, therefore, difficult to understand, why the University authorities are denying admission to the students despite the completion of all the admission formalities, he was quoted as saying in the press release.
Mr Singh said the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University has already been approached to issue instructions to all the colleges affiliated to the University to implement the decision. But even after that, the colleges have failed to respond, he said.
"The college session is already in process for the last few months and the delay in admission could adversely affect the career of the students," the Minister said.
Mr Singh has sought the intervention of Union HRD Minister and requested her to accord highest priority to the issue before it leads to avoidable youth discontent, it said.
